What is Wilms Tumour?
Wilms is a form of kidney cancer that develops in the womb and affects about 70 children a year in the United Kingdom.
Happily, most children are cured. If undetected, however, the tumour progresses through five 'stages' and the odds of succesful treatment are reduced.
Molly's cancer was at Stage 4 before it was diagnosed.
You can read more detailed information on Wilms by clicking on the "Understanding Wilms" button on the left. |
Wilms, Molly and GOSH
Molly's surgery, chemotherapy and other treatments were carried out by the world-class staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Molly could not have been in better hands - it is just unfortunate her Wilms was ultimately too far advanced before she was diagnosed.
Molly's family and "We Can Beat Wilms" are proud and privileged to support GOSH and its nurses, surgeons and researchers in their work.
Molly's battle against Wilms was featured in the launch episode of "Child in a Million", screened on Five on February 21, 2007.
